Hi Joanne,
I have used the patina and spray and I love it. But sometimes you don't get exactly what you want. But I have also used chalk paint to get a patina look. So I think the paint from your old projects would work! I would personally use a chippy brush and then wipe off excess paint with a paper towel.
Here's a link to chippy brushes I use. I hope that helps and let me know if you have anymore questions!

I am waiting for delivery of a metal sun/moon face for my lanai. (no weather exposure) It will be stainless steel, painted with copper colored paint. The maker says the paint will NOT weather. I want to add patina to it. I have lots of The Gulf left from another project, and a little of a grey blue/green that I mixed up from left overs. Can I just use this on the copper colored paint or do I need to buy the patina paint and spray? Would you use a sponge to apply? Thanks, so glad I found your site and shop!
