5 Tips To Make Faux Flowers Look Real

When I was a kid faux flowers were often cheesy and quite honestly many stores still put homely arrangements together. So one thinks that faux isn’t great but, it can be and I now have them scattered around my house. They make me feel good especially in the grey days of winter in the pacific northwest that lasts for about 5 months.

Best Faux Flowers for Home Decor

Tip number 1 is how to choose the best faux flowers. I love peonies and hydrangeas as my go to faux flowers. I purchased many brands to review for this post and will share the results below. Spending more money doesn’t mean they are the best. Sure they can look amazing but I found some very budget friendly ones that will make you going back for more.

Faux Floral Ideas

Number 2. Mix in fresh flowers with your fake florals. I will often gather green stems and flowers from the garden to mix in with my faux floral arrangements to make them look their best. Roses are pretty and keep very nicely. The fake flowers I have, sit in water just fine but they may become slimy if you don’t change the water often.

Vases for Beautiful Faux Flower Arrangements

Number 3. Choose your vase. This can be anything from a large white picture to a picnic basket. I love using urns and antique vases to hold my faux flowers too. I try not to choose cheap looking vessels as then it may draw ones eyes closer to the flowers for a deeper inspection.

How To Make Faux Florals Look Natural

Number 4. Trim your faux flower stems. Removing a lot of the larger leaves with soften the flower arrangement and look more natural. This trick is actually the most important tip.

Faux Flowers For Year Round

Number 5. Bend your faux flowers nested at the base verses cutting them. This give you the option of adjusting the flowers depending on the vase that you use. I tend to have faux florals out all year now as they look beautiful and cost less than fresh flowers.

So are you wanting to go over my favorite faux flowers for the best fake flower arrangements?

The Best Faux Flowers for Home Decor and Wedding

Afloral has some gorgeous faux florals and they have many price points so I ordered a very common bunched of peonies but honestly they didn’t win. My favorite peony faux flowers are from Amazon. I ordered many different brands from Amazon to see how they would all look and feel. Some have beautiful coloring and some not so much. I will show you my favorite faux flowers for home décor and leave a short list of my not so favorite ones below so you know what ones I tried out.

These are the best faux flowers for home decor and weddings.

My not so favorite Faux flowers. It could be the look or the color with these ones.

Beautiful Faux Floral Stems and Fruit

Here are some faux flowers like lavender stems and roses and greens that you may want to have on hand to mix it with your floral designs. Fruit stems are also fun to use with fake. If you are using faux succulents a great way to give them an update is to paint them. I have a diy faux succulent wreath post where you can learn how to do this.

I have to admit that I am a really big penny pincher. I have an entire box of faux flowers that simply gathered dust, lost their shape, etc., but I won’t throw them out. One trick that I have learned is that you can blow the dust off of them with a blow dryer on low heat, then use hair spray to help reshape them. Do you have any advice for revitalizing faux flowers beyond their prime?

I’m sure there could be a way you can wash them, but I have never looked into it! Otherwise I would just blow them off as you do and then do the mixing with real flowers.

I even use faux flowers outside by my doors 😱 I know! But it keeps the knats and unwanted insects from welcoming themselves inside.
