Naked Cake for Weddings
Tip 1: Use parchment paper in your pans so that your cake layers don’t crumble or fall apart. This always works so well. It is easy to take your cake out of the pan and it doesn’t stick and then you just peel it off when it’s cooling.
Tip 2: Use a stabilizer with your whip cream so that it’s firm enough to add more layers on top. The cake above is actually from Ty and Claire’w wedding. Claire wanted a simple cake but the naked cake really elevates the look.
Easy Cake Recipe
For most of our cake recipes we actually use a box mix. But to make is a little tastier we add about 1 cup per cake box mix. It makes it richer, moist, and creamier.
Now for my best frosting ever. So you will want to whip 2 cups whip cream, 1/2 cup brown sugar. If you want it a little sweeter add more sugar. I know brown sugar sounds strange but now I will never go back. Then you are going to add 1 tsp vanilla bean paste. If you want a more stabilized whip cream add about 1/2 tsp of cream of tartar. Whip until you get stiff peaks.
Tip 3: To make your cake layers thick use one cake box per cake layer. If you want thinner layers divide your batter in half so that one cake mix goes into 9″ cake pans.
Tips 4: Apply extra filling/whip cream so that when you go to frost your sides some of that frosting that’s coming out from between your layers of cake. You can use that to smear along the outside of your cake, I don’t know if that makes sense but you know what I mean.
Use a wide angle metal spatula to apply a little bit more frosting if needed and wipe around the edges. Sometimes it doesn’t look super pretty it just depends on how crumbly your cake is.
Cake Decorating Ideas
Above is our best chocolate cake recipe ever! And I used our fave whip cream recipe.
Tip 5: Decorate your cake with flowers, berries, or just frosting. It’s totally up to your own preference. I’m going to give you some ideas of what I’ve done. We’ve made many wedding cakes we like the poppyseed cake a lot. But of course chocolates good too.
These cakes can also be transformed into naked cakes. Like mentioned above just take your spatula and scrape the excess frosting off the sides.
There are so many different ideas when it comes to decorating a cake! So I hope I inspired you to get baking and have some fun. If you want some more wedding cake inspiration we have a post for you. You can also check out another one of our simple wedding cake here.
